While articulating trade-off decisions, always use a visual approach
Have a communication policy outlined for your team
Escalate early, and escalate often
Always document decisions, next steps and circulate them
Always use numbered lists in documents or slides
Repeat your goal. Then, do it again
Use the “so-what?” question to assess each slide
Use the steel-man approach when there is a debate or disagreement
Always send pre-reads, ahead of the discussion

Why & How did Spotify went about redesigning their icons
Why?
The weight and thickness of strokes were too thin which was neither inline with their evolving visual language, nor inline with their evolving typography
To improve the readability of icons, since they were currently used with different background colors affording different levels of readability
To fix Inconsistencies in icons designed over a period of time - size, backgrounds, weight, etc.
To simplify icon system and icon creation process
How?
Increase weight / stroke-size of icons
Only 2 (bold) sizes of icons: 16px and 24px
Maintained the metaphors / symbolisms used in icons to manage end-user experience
Increased contrast for active state vs inactive states by filling the icons (and slightly redesigning icons where previously filling icons wasn’t feasible)
